Is Angel Fire challenging enough for advanced and expert skiers?

Short answer: Yes! While Angel Fire Resort is known for being family-friendly, it also offers challenging terrain for advanced and expert skiers. The backside of the mountain has steep runs that provide a very different experience from the resort’s beginner and intermediate slopes.

Expert skiing at Angel Fire Resort

Don’t let Angel Fire’s family-friendly reputation fool you. There’s plenty of challenging terrain here for experienced skiers.

The backside of the mountain is where advanced and expert skiers will find some of Angel Fire’s most demanding runs. These steeper slopes offer a welcome challenge for anyone who enjoys skiing more technical terrain.

One of the things I love about Angel Fire is that skiers of different abilities can enjoy the same mountain. Families can spend the day exploring the easier runs while more experienced skiers head for the steeps.

The resort has also made some significant improvements. The new Rakes Rider quad chairlift opened for the 2025–26 season, providing faster access to the backside steeps. The resort also introduced new black-diamond runs and its first double-black-diamond glades, adding even more options for expert skiers.
